A Few Examples

1. Hundreds of individuals and families sponsor children at our three orphanages as well as at our school in the Congo and Sudan . Similarly, many individuals sponsor students to attend the bio-intensive agricultural program at Kipkaren. A youth group in Upland recently held a fundraiser where they picked some students whom they are sending to the program in Kipkaren.

2.One church has invested significantly in the construction of our Kenyan children’s homes and schools. Another church is raising the necessary funds to complete our orphanage in Sudan.

3.People have made significant differences in families’ lives in the Congo and Kenya through purchasing cows, goats and chickens for these families.

3.Some churches and individuals sponsor the salaries of our Kenyan staff.

4. A group in Iowa recently trained a Kenyan staff member in optometry and built an optometry wing onto our existing clinic.

But the involvement doesn't’t end with financial investments. Staff members are often invited to speak at churches and at schools. They share about the good things God is doing in Africa, about the needs of the people, about God’s heart for the poor. They share stories of individuals’ lives being changed, of children finding a new home, of AIDS patients finding hope.

The unique ministry of ELI has proven itself to be so practical, productive, and meaningful that what began as an outreach from a local church has become a vital ministry involving gifted people from around the nation.  ELI continues to include an ever widening circle of people—Christians from many churches and denominations as well as non-Christians who see the importance of empowering the poor.
