“Davis”, Jennifer, Tovah, and Elami

When we were married in 1999, we knew we would work in Africa someday. Seven years, two kids and many valuable experiences later, we’re ready to learn and work with ELI in Kenya. Over the years we prayed about when to go to Africa, and with whom we should partner in ministry. Having grown up as missionary kids (Davis in Kenya and Jen in the US), we had a vision for what we hoped our own mission effort would look like someday: We wanted to work with people who trusted God to direct their lives; we wanted to work and learn under local African leadership; we wanted to address people’s physical needs through health care and education while sharing Christ’s love for them; and we hoped to train and empower Africans to serve their communities, not to replace their contributions. In December 2004we learned about the ministry of ELI, and were amazed by the fact that ELI met each of the criteria on our list. After much prayer and God’s leading we applied to serve with ELI. Starting January 2007, we will begin working and learning in Kipkaren, Kenya. Davis has four years of teaching experience, and one year in school administration. He will be teaching in the school and learning how to work in this new context. Jennifer has been working in a Newborn Intensive Care Unit for the past year and a half. Serving at the clinic in Kipkaren, she hopes to learn much more about nursing as well as join ELI’s HIV/AIDS home-based care team.

We have two girls who will be 2½ and 6 months old in January. Though they don’t realize it yet, they are looking forward to making new friends in Kipkaren, too! Please pray for and with us for a time of learning and serving in Kenya. We also seek God’s clear direction for where we might serve within the other African countries that ELI serves in, following our time of training and serving in Kipkaren, Kenya.
