Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where do the children at the orphanage come from and how were they selected?

Nearly all of the children are full orphans (both parents are either dead or have abandoned the child). About 80% were orphaned by AIDS. Most of the children come from rural areas, as opposed to the city. They were not street children. The majority were living with extended family members who didn’t have the means to feed, clothe, or educate them. Family or community members filled out applications on behalf of the children and a selection committee chose the direst cases to be accepted into the orphanage.

2. What ages are the children?

Children between the ages of 3 and 9 were accepted into the home. They will now stay at the orphanage until they are grown and on their own.

3. Are these children available for adoption?

No. The orphanage is now the legal guardian of all the children and we want the children to know that this is their permanent home and family with no possibility of being taken away.

4. Where do the children go to school?

There is a private Christian school next door to the orphanage that all the children attend.

5. How can I sponsor a child at the orphanage or make a donation to the orphanage?

6. Do any of the children have AIDS?

At our Kipkaren Children’s Home, some of the children are indeed HIV positive and are being provided with the necessary treatment to ensure a long and healthy life.
