How Do They Live?
Both the Ilula and Kipkaren Children’s Homes are situated in rural Kenya. Built adjacent to our training centers, the orphanages are built as family-style housing. Each child is assigned to a family, and each orphanage has four families. Each family is led by parents, committed Christians employed by ELI. These couples are responsible for 12 boys, 12 girls, and their own biological children. Each set of parents live in a circular home (or hut) set in between the boys’ hut and the girls’ hut.
In Ilula, two families share one dining room (or gazebo). They eat together and share devotions together. In Kipkaren, every family has their own dining room.
Both campuses also have a kitchen, storage facilities, and bathrooms, as well as staff housing (for Director of the Children’s Home). They also have playgrounds and sports fields, which the children love!
At both Children’s Homes, the school is a just a short walking distance away.
