Who Takes Care of the Children?

The staff at the orphanage are committed Christians with hearts for children. They are local indigenous people with relevant disciplines and skills. We welcome visitors to volunteer time working with the children as well.

The current staff consists of a director, assistant to the director, four sets of parents, four assistant parents, three cooks, a gardener, a watchman, and a secretary. There are also interns who serve for 1-2 month periods and many short-term mission teams that assist at the home. American staff hold positions as USA liaisons and sponsorship coordinators.

Laban and Angelina Rono
* Director and Assistant to the Director*

Laban and Angelina Rono were hired as directors of the orphanage in January 2004. They immediately went to an institute at an orphanage in Uganda for five months of training. For Laban and Angelina, bringing God’s love to children has been their lives’ work.

Laban began by aspiring to reach children in the classroom. While he was training at Mosoriot Teacher’s College, he met Angelina who was also training to become a teacher. The two were married in 1982. Between them, they now have 47 years of teaching experience at elementary and high school levels.

In 1989, Laban had the opportunity to expand his reach to needy children by becoming project manager for World Vision. He served with them for nine years and then became deputy head master at a missionary school. It was late in 2003 when he heard that his longtime friend, Samuel Teimuge, was helping to start an orphanage through Empowering Lives International. Laban and Angelina decided to follow God’s call to deepen their ministry to children by committing to be the directors of the orphanage.
