Barry Kipleting
Children with special needs often face unique challenges both at home and at school. This is true for one of the children at our Kipkaren Children’s Home, Barry Kipleting.
Barry was one of the first children brought to Kipkaren back in 2006. When he first arrived, he was met with a loving family, a safe home, and the opportunity to attend school. This chance to receive an education changed everything for Barry. Throughout elementary school, Barry’s guardians and teachers noticed he was having trouble with his speech and ability to keep up in class. Because of this, Barry was enrolled in St. Theresa Special School after his 8th grade year, where he could receive the care and attention needed to excel in the classroom.
Despite the challenges he faced and difficulties he had to overcome, Barry worked hard in his studies and began to succeed in his own way! Through his new approach to learning, Barry discovered his God-given gift of creativity by making incredible works of art. Now Barry has officially finished school! He completed his courses at St. Teresa Special School earlier this year, where he learned independent life skills as well as job skills. Barry used his love of creating to learn the trade of weaving and beading to create baskets, mats, and jewelry, which will allow him to earn a God-honoring income.
The Kipkaren Children’s Home hosted a joyous commissioning ceremony as Barry reached this significant achievement of independence. Both his ELI family and extended family, including his guardians, were there to celebrate with him! Barry is now living with his guardians, and they have been enlisted to encourage and walk alongside him as he requires extra assistance to thrive in adulthood. Considering the hard work Barry has consistently demonstrated and the useful skills he has acquired, we are confident Barry will do great things and set a strong example for other students with special needs!
We thank God for partners like you, who have played a vital role in providing Barry the encouragement needed to reach his full potential. He is a faithful young man who strives to put God first in everything he does, and we know the Lord will bless him in all future endeavors!
