The Birange Family
The Birange family has endured heartbreaking loss and unimaginable hardship. After violent conflict devastated their region in eastern DR Congo, five siblings enrolled at ELI Academy were left orphaned, losing both their mother and father during the unrest. Ampire, Esperance, twins Cikuru and Cito, and young Richesse suddenly found themselves without the care, protection, and stability every child needs.
Today, the children are being raised by their older brother, who works tirelessly to keep the family together. Living in a nearby slum area with difficult conditions, he does everything he can to provide for his siblings. The income is small, but the responsibility he carries is enormous as he works to pay rent, meet basic needs, and keep the children in school despite overwhelming challenges.
In the middle of this hardship, the ELI Academy has become a place of safety, encouragement, and hope for the Birange children. Through compassionate support, daily meals, and access to education, ELI has helped provide stability during one of the most painful seasons of their lives. Ampire, the eldest sibling, shared, “We thank ELI for understanding our situation. Even during the hardest moments, we are able to continue our studies. We are especially grateful for the feeding program, which continues to nourish us during these difficult times. ELI is a home for us!”
The Birange family’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact education and compassion can have in the life of a child facing crisis. Because of the support of ELI sponsors and partners, these children are not defined by loss or hardship. Instead, they are being given the opportunity to learn, grow, and believe in a brighter future. Through your generosity, hope is being restored, one family at a time!
